“Harlem
On My Mind”, Julia's
one-woman show, directed by Shaunelle Perry is a musical journey
through the dynamic time in history known as "The Harlem
Renaissance." Experience the poetry of Langston Hughes,
the larger than life personalities of Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters
and Josephine Baker while celebrating the music of "Duke" Ellington,
Thomas "Fats"
Waller, Harold Arlen and Irving Berlin.

"Julia has a voice
that is so mellow and full of emotion, it is easy to get lost
in the music and feel your heart open… she
makes time stand still!" "She has the capacity to melt
away your hurt and pain, even if for the briefest moment, and replace
it with a sense of awe and wonder of what might be possible."

"I learned things that
night that I'd never known, especially about how the history
and the music all fit together and what the Harlem Renaissance
was all about. I was totally thrilled, impressed and entertained.
Children, youth and adults really need to hear this story where
history and music combine in the story of a people. Thank you
for presenting so much in a tight storyline that made the audience
care about and believe in the character."

| "Julia and the Harlem on My Mind Band
swept our special needs children off their feet from the moment
the show started. 300 students who were either severely emotionally
disturbed or visually impaired were entranced the entire show.
Our school was ecstatic for a week afterwards. Julia, we love you!" |

“Thank you for a wonderful show on Sunday,
February 13. The audience loved your show, Harlem on My Mind, and
while it would have been wonderful any time of the year, your performing
during Black History Month was a bonus. This was the largest turnout
for a concert in the three years I’ve worked at White Plains
Public Library. Your band was excellent. Everyone involved with
your show was a joy to work with.”

“In her program, ‘Harlem on my
Mind,’ Ms. Simpson teaches you, through words and music,
about an amazing time –the Harlem Renaissance. Enjoy a performance
that is professional and a style that is both energetic and moving!” |
